Man arrested after confronting security officer

A security officer incurred minor injuries when he was allegedly attacked by a disorderly customer at The Revelry on the South Service Road in Grambling.

Brooks Connor Byerley, 19, of Ida, La., was arrested by Grambling Police after interviewing the security officer and an off-duty state Alcohol Tobacco Control agent who witnessed the incident.

Grambling Police responded to The Revelry at about 3:10 a.m. Sunday morning in response to a report of a fight in the parking lot. The security officer told police he was clearing the parking lot when a man yelled that he wasn’t going anywhere and that the security guard couldn’t make him do anything. The man used numerous profanities as he was told to leave the parking lot at least five times.

When the man reached into his pants as if to draw a firearm, the security officer grabbed him to prevent him from pulling his hand out of his pants. The man began punching the security officer, and they both fell to the ground.

An off-duty ATC agent witnessed the incident and assisted the security officer until police arrived. The officer’s uniform was soiled and police saw scratches on his arms and lower back.

Byerley was arrested for simple battery and disturbing the peace and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. His bail was set at $4,000.
