Staff report

Louisiana Tech has already clinched a spot in the upcoming 2021 Conference USA Softball Championships next week in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

However, the Lady Techsters (22-25, 10-6 C-USA) still have some work to do with final seeding still on the line as Tech hosts C-USA leader North Texas (33-10, 14-2) Friday and Saturday at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field for Senior Weekend.

Due to Sunday’s bleak weather forecast, the two teams will play a doubleheader at 4 p.m. today and a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Recognition of Tech’s five seniors will take place following Saturday’s second game with Kara Goff, Madie Green, Bre Hernandez, Zoe Hicks and Audrey Pickett will be honored.

Single game tickets for both days will be on sale at the box office as gates open one hour prior to first pitch.

Tech and North Texas shared the 2019 Conference USA regular season title before the Lady Techsters captured the Tournament Title and advanced to the NCAA Regionals. No conference champion was crowned in 2020 due to the COVID-19 shortened season.

North Texas enters the weekend having won 14 straight C-USA games after dropping its opening two against UAB. The Mean Green are led by senior pitcher Hope Trautwein, who made NCAA history this year by striking out 21 in a seven-inning perfect game performance.

The Mean Green can clinch the 2021 C-USA title with three wins this weekend.

LA Tech has won seven of its last nine games, including taking three out of four against Southern Miss this past weekend in Hattiesburg.

The Lady Techsters are vying for seeding in the C-USA Tournament as Tech can mathematically still finish anywhere between first and seventh (top eight teams advance).

The 2021 Conference USA Tournament will start Wednesday and run through the title game on Sunday, May 16.

TRACK & FIELD: Tech will send of pair of student-athletes to the Arkansas Twilight as Conner Killian and Ahmad Young will compete at John McDonnell Field Friday.

Young will be among a field of 15 competitors in the 110-meter hurdles, while Killian is set to race in the 1,500-meters. Friday’s meet will be streamed live on the SEC Network Plus.

The Bulldog and Lady Techsters will compete in the 2021 C-USA Outdoor Championships May 13-16 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

BOWLING: Fresh off being named a NTCA honorable mention All-American, Allie Leiendecker is leading the Lady Techsters at the Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC), the first appearance in program history.

Leiendecker and Co. opened competition on Thursday at the Spectrum Entertainment Complex in Wyoming, Michigan. No. 2 seed Tech advanced to the winners bracket after defeating 15 seed Lawrence Tech, 4-3.

Tech will face No. 7 seed Wyoming today as the event continues through Sunday.

Leiendecker is a two-time NTCA All-American after being named a second team All-American as a freshman in the shortened 2019-20 season.

The All-Southland Bowling League third team selection was named to the all-tournament teams at both the LA Tech Invite and the Southland Bowling League Tournament.
