Tigers take aim at SWAC West Division crown as UAPB visits

The Grambling baseball team can win the Southwestern Athletic Conference West Division at home this weekend.

The Tigers host UAPB at 6 p.m. today, 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m Sunday on Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park.
If the G-Men can duplicate their sweep at UAPB April 2-4 (11-1, 11-8, 7-5), they can walk off with the divisional crown.

Grambling (15-22, 12-6) leads Prairie View (12-7 in SWAC play) by percentage points in the division despite dropping two of three to the Panthers at home last weekend. Prairie View has no league games left.

UAPB (5-31, 5-13) has lost eight of its last nine, but snagged the middle game of last weekend’s series with Southern.

Coach James’ Cooper’s Tigers are riding the hot bat and fast legs of Jahmoi Percival, who leads the club with a .363 batting with 31 RBI.

The Tigers’ top pitchers are Jason Alvarez (3-3, 5.60 ERA) and Kerry Boykins Jr. (4-2, 6.62).

TRACK & FIELD: Grambling is in Day Two of the SWAC Championships at Prairie View. The conference meet wraps up Saturday.

NAIA FOOTBALL: Eddie G. Robinson Stadium is the site for the 65th Annual NAIA Championship football game at 6 p.m. Monday.

No. 3 Lindsey Wilson College will face No. 6 Northwestern College. Tickets are $32 for general admission before game day, and are available through GSUTigers.com and TicketMaster.com.
