The Class 5A state champions Ruston High School boys track and field team was honored by the Ruston Board of Aldermen during Monday night’s monthly council meeting.

Ruston’s Bearcats won the Class 5A state indoor meet last month at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

RHS runners and jumpers piled up 82 1/2 points, topping indoor champion Zachary’s 67, with Ouachita (50) and Catholic-Baton Rouge (48) the other Class 5A contenders.

On Monday night, the Bearcats were honored by the Ruston Board of Aldermen prior to their monthly meeting at City Hall.

“We expect you to do it again next year,” Ruston Mayor Ronnie Walker joked with RHS head coach Allen Whitaker during the recognition.
