Grambling Juneteenth schedule set

The schedule is set for the 2021 Juneteenth Heritage Festival for the city of Grambling.

Festivities will kick off from 5-7 p.m. Jun 18 with a cookout and candlelight vigil held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

That same night, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the grand opening of the Grambling Economic Development Corporation Building will be held in Suite 110 at Legends Square.

Then on Juneteenth itself — June 19 — the day will begin with a fishing tournament from 7:30 – 11 a.m. at Grambling City Park.

From 10 – 11:30 a.m. there will be a ceremony for the presentation of commemorative markers in Suite 104 of Legends Squad, along with a voter registration drive held at the same time and place.

From noon – 3 p.m. a Fish and Shrimp Fry will be held at Grambling City Park while from 3 – 5 p.m. a Freedom Painters paint party will be held in Suite 104 of Legends Square.

Two movies will also be part of this year’s Grambling Juneteenth Heritage Festival. “Prince Among Men” will be shown starting at 6 p.m. on Facebook while at 8:30 p.m., the movie “Entanglement,” written, produced and developed by Grambling native James Flournoy will be shown in the Grambling State University Quad.
