I don’t know if it was a he or a she driving but they are my new driving hero.

I was driving east on I-20 watching the world go by. Headed west was one of the coolest things I have witnessed. A huge motor home was making its way west on the Interstate. This motor home was the size of a charter bus. I think it was probably three bedrooms and two bathrooms, it was so large. I admired the money spent to buy the motor home and then to fill the fuel tanks of this motor home.

But I’m not finished. The motor home was pulling a big GMC or Chevy SUV. It was the full-sized version of that model vehicle. Someone had spent much money purchasing that vehicle as well. When the person got out of their gas guzzling motor home, they then piled into another gas guzzler.

I’m still not finished. The SUV had a trailer attached to it. On the trailer was a golf cart. It was amusing that one family, couple, or individual had created their own caravan. I was amazed when I thought about what kind of driving had to be done to fill up the first vehicle. This guy could exit the interstate and still have two vehicles hanging out in the road. A left-hand turn had to be planned days in advance with such a long caravan vehicle. He or she must have been a great driver to have a SUV and a trailer toting a golf cart all attached to his huge motor home. Then I started wondering, was this person going on vacation, moving, or trying to escape something.

What is following you? A great theological truth is that you can’t drive forward looking in the rearview mirror. What is in your past that you keep hanging on to? It might be a great success or a failure. It could be someone broke your trust or disappointed you. It might even be a sin you committed. Why are you still clinging to your past? It really messes up the drive!

Jesus said that if you put your hand on the steering wheel and look back you are not worthy of the kingdom of God. Happiness and joy are discovered when we live fully today. Fretting about tomorrow and dragging up yesterday rob you of life today.

Are you living fully today?
