Police are seeking a 24-year old Ruston man in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old Ruston youth around midnight Tuesday morning.
In a Thursday afternoon press release, Ruston Police announced investigators had obtained an arrest warrant for Fredrion Tyjuan Evans charging him with second degree murder.
In the early morning hours of Sept. 6, police responded to a shooting on Winona Drive off Tennessee Avenue just west of U.S. 167 in south Ruston.
Officers found a male teen suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was rushed to Northern Louisiana Medical Center, where he was later died.
Sources told the Lincoln Parish Journal the victim was believed to be a Ruston High student who formerly played on the Bearcat football team. Authorities have not released the victim’s name.
The press release noted several interviews and other investigative steps led police to seek a warrant for Evans.
According to online resources, Evans was a standout athlete at a local high school, playing basketball and running track.
No other details have been released and Evans has not been apprehended.
The police investigation is continuing. Lincoln Parish Journal will update the story when more details become available.
