RINGGOLD — The numbers speak for themselves— 90-6.
That’s the combined score of Lincoln Preparatory School’s football team over its opponents the past two weeks.
Lincoln Prep rolled its record to 2-0 Friday night as the Panthers pummeled the Ringgold Redskins 36-0 on the road.
Panthers coach Glen Hall played low-keyed things after the big win.
“We held our own a little bit,” Hall said. “There were some big plays we had. We had one on a punt return and one on a reception. We struggled a little at first but the players overcame it.”
Hall was especially pleased with one factor in the contest.
“We scored in every facet of the game.” Hall said. “Special teams with a punt return, defense with an interception return and offense on the run and pass.”
Senior running back Ta’Rell Simons played a big part in that, scoring on a punt return and a run and also tossing a touchdown pass.
Hall also praised his offense for the way it spread the ball around against the Redskins.
“It seemed like everybody got involved, and that’s the kind of thing we need with the numbers we have,” Hall said.
But it was his defense that might have pleased Hall most of all.
“They fly to the football,” he said of his defensive players. “The players have bought into the system and know that as long as they stay home and play their role before reacting, the team will probably be better because of it. The outcome will be better.
“We gave the defense the game ball tonight — the entire defense. It wasn’t an individual effort. It was a team effort. And that’s what we need to be the kind of team we want to be.”
The winning effort included all-district senior lineman Imani Marcel (6-3, 380) and all of Lincoln Prep’s Panthers in the trenches.
“A big part of this start has been the play of our line on both sides of the ball,” Hall said. “It all begins with them. Both last against Beekman and this week against Ringgold, they took over —took control. And if you can control the lines on both sides of the ball, the outcome of the game is usually going to go in your favor.”
The game was one of eight district games the Panthers will play this season in the nine-team District 1-1A. The only other non-district game Lincoln Prep will play will be at District 2-1A opponent Lakeside on Oct. 8.
“Getting off to a fast start is important for us this season because district play begins so fast,” Hall said. “With only two non-district games and district season starting in week two, there’s not much room to have a bad game. We’ll have to bring it every week.”
Lincoln Prep next plays host to Louisiana High School Athletic Association newcomer Glenbrook out of Minden next Friday at a site Hall said would be determined on Monday.
