As the city of Ruston anticipates the upcoming opening of the new indoor sports complex, more residents have expressed interest in upcoming fall leagues.
Three hundred twenty-two people have signed up for youth soccer, which is double the players before the pandemic. In addition to that, 167 people are signed up for youth flag football, which saw an increase of 45%.
Megan Rowe, sports complex director, explained why so many people are interested in the new facility.
“Kids and parents are ready to get out to play and participate in organized sports again,” Rowe said. “Plus, we have newer, state of the art facilities.”
Outside of basketball, the basketball facilities can be set up for volleyball and pickleball. The facility can also be used for walking in case of bad weather.
Rowe said she is anticipating the increase in participants, and she is ready.
“We will continue to offer the best experience for the athletes that participate in our RPAR programs by offering state of the art facilities with a fun, friendly environment,” Rowe said.
Ruston’s Sports Complex, which is going to be at 2001 Champion Way, is expecting a big opening when it opens in October.
The new facility will features six basketball courts, which can host many indoor events. It also features a 4,000-square foot room for birthday parties, dances and other events.
