WHAT: Ruston vs. St. Thomas More
WHERE: Lafayette, La.
WHEN: Friday, Oct. 1, 7 p.m.
HOW: KXKZ 107.5 FM
A last second field goal propelled the Ruston Bearcats over the Carencro Golden Bears 38-35 last Friday.
And Ruston head coach Jerrod Baugh would love to take that momentum to South Louisiana tonight as Ruston takes on the St. Thomas More Cougars for the first road test in nearly a month.
“It was a really competitive ballgame last week,” Baugh said of last week’s opponent. “Carencro came ready to play. We had a couple of opportunities to go up a couple of scores and we couldn’t take advantage. I knew it would come down to the wire, and it’s good to be on the winning side.”
Ruston is on a three-game winning streak after last Friday’s win. St. Thomas More sits 3-1 on the season, as well, with its lone loss coming against Alexandria Senior High earlier this season. The Cougars are far more likely to pass than Carencro Baugh added.
“It’s going to be a big difference from last week” Baugh said. “You have to change up the entire way you prepare. They’ve got a lot of great players on their team. Those kids know what they are doing and what their coach’s expectations are. This will be a great challenge for us, especially with their quarterback (Walker Howard) getting the publicity he is getting. Our best defense for us will be a great offense. We need to put together some great drives and do well offensively to win this game.”
The game will be the final non-district game for the Bearcats before starting District 2-5A play on the road against Pineville on Friday, Oct. 8.
