Creek XC prepares for stretch run

With the state cross country race just over a month away, Cedar Creek took an opportunity to get away from competition this past weekend and do some team bonding.

Head coach Craig Moss and members of the boys and girls cross country teams and many of their parents spent the weekend in Branson, Missouri.

“We had an enjoyable time,” said Moss. “It’s really team building. They work their tails off. So we want to give them some time off. We went to Silver Dollar City. We went snow tubing. We went go-cart racing. We had a blast.”

Moss said he tries to make a special trip like this every year with the group, whether its Six Flags or Branson or going to Orlando to race in the Disney Cross Country Classic.

“We try to do something like this every year,” said Moss. “We typically go around this time of the year. I decided this year we were going to go to Branson. We relaxed and we enjoyed each other and now we will get back to the drawing board this week.

“It’s just a time where the kids get to spend time together away from cross country and away from school.”

Creek has four meets remaining, including the state meet on Nov. 15 in Natchitoches. Moss said the teams will compete this weekend in Clinton, Mississippi, at an event hosted by Mississippi College.

“This is a great race (venue),” said Moss. “Ruston will be there … most of north Louisiana schools will be there. They break it up into Divisions. Class 2 and under fall into the Blue Division so that’s what we will race on Saturday. It’s just a great course.”

Cedar Creek will face Oct. 26 at OCS and then will piggy back off the Class 5A regional meet on Nov. 4 with a race at Lincoln Parish Park.
