State Chapter of the Year honors have been bestowed on Ruston’s Epsilon Sigma Alpha service group, and now the Zeta Rho chapter is inviting others to an online rush event from 2-3 p.m. Oct. 17.
Vice President and rush chair Jennifer Patterson said the organization can be described as a group that focuses on “good friends, good works and good times.”
“We create activities and support causes that let us surround ourselves with welcoming, positive people who enjoy making a difference and having fun together. We’d like to invite people on a journey that includes education, service and association.”
The group’s recent statewide awards include first place in five categories, plus one international citation.
Individual members earning honors were Bre Brown, first place for Pledge of the Year, and Patterson, third place for Member of the Year. Both Brown and Patterson won first place locally in those categories.
In addition to being Louisiana’s chapter of the year, other first-place awards for Zeta Rho included accolades in education, rush and philanthropic hours (137 hours per member). The chapter placed second for its Disaster Fund work ($26.50 per member) and third in philanthropic monies ($8,644 per member).
Zeta Rho’s educational programs for the year, coordinated by Patterson and President Sallie Rose Hollis, were ranked in the top 10 internationally for the second year in a row.
ESA’s main charitable project is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Last year funds were raised through a radiothon sponsored jointly with Z-107.5, mathathons, trikeathons, memorial donations and other means. The Zeta Rho chapter also supports additional philanthropic projects such as the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team, Christian Community Action, Easter Seals, March of Dimes, aid to veterans and local needy families, and more.
Both men and women are eligible for membership. The theme for this year’s rush is “Hats Off to ESA.” Anyone interested in attending can receive the Zoom link by emailing Hollis at email@example.com.
