G-men sign six to baseball

Grambling State University interim head baseball coach Davin Pierre announced the signing of six student-athletes in its 2022 early signing class.

The incoming crop of G-Men come from four states and the Dominican Republic.

“We are definitely excited about this early signing class and wanted to continue to build our foundation of being strong up the middle,” said Pierre. “We can’t wait to get these young men on campus and go through the process of developing them into what we call G-Men.”

The Tigers added Arrington Easton, Pedro Agosto, Jaden Guthrie, Chris Marcellus, Ethan Bates and Jose Vargas in the early signing period.

Arrington Eason | OF/INF | 5-foot-10 | 170 pounds
Woodlands Christian Academy
Woodlands, Texas

Arrington is an outfielder/infielder and will come to the Tigers having played in the Hunter Pence Academy.

What Pierre says…
“Eason is an exciting athlete with a lot of confidence. He brings it to the field day in and day out and he’s a tempo setter. Has the ability to play both outfielder and infield at a high level. He one of the better talents in the Hunter Pence Academy organization and that says a lot.”

Pedro Agosto | OF | 5-foot-11 | 180 pounds
Sunshine State Elite Academy
Orlando, Fla.

Agosto is a very athletic outfielder and is extremely fast.

What Pierre says…
“Pedro is an electric athlete that runs a 6.3 in the 60. He is a game changer with his speed and he also has the ability to be a force at the plate. Agosto has the potential to be an elite defender with a high level IQ. Getting a talent like this out of Florida is huge for us.”

Jaden Guthrie | INF |5-foot-10 | 160 pounds
Forest Park High School
Montclair, Va.

Guthrie is an infielder and is a very aggressive hitter.

What Pierre says…
“Guthrie is a middle infielder that has really good hands and feet. He’s the type of athlete we want up the middle and he plays the game hard. He’s aggressive at the plate and he’s not scared of anything. Great add for our ball club.”

Chris Marcellus | Catcher | 5-foot-10 | 170 pounds
Sachse High School
Rowlett, Texas

Marcellus is catcher and has tremendous athleticism.

What Pierre says…
“Chris is a short compact catcher that can receive and throw it at a high level. Has big time pop and could be ready to play early. Catcher it a prime position in our conference with all the athleticism and Chris is a guy we believe can handle that load early.”

Ethan Bates | LHP | 6-foot- | 180 pounds
Frontier Community College
Anderson, Ind.

Bates is a lefty with great movement.

What Pierre says…
“Ethan will be difficult to hit a side arm lefty with deception and movement that will allow him to have huge success not only in our league, but outside of the conference as well. Back end guy or closer. He’s a guy you want to get the ball too.”

Jose Vargas | INF | 5-foot-11 | 180 pounds
Catawba Valley Community College
Harrisburg, N.C. (Dominican Republic)

Vargas is an infielder and can hit from both side of the plate.

What Pierre says…
“Vargas is something special with the glove. He’s an elite defender at shortstop and he’s a tough out from both sides of the plate. Good athlete and handles himself with confidence. He’s a professional defender and we are excited about having him.”
