A 24-year-old Ruston resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated over the weekend.
Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Highway 3072 in reference to a vehicle crash. The 911 caller believed the driver was drunk, as when the driver emerged from the vehicle, he was stumbling around.
Deputies identified the driver as Orlin Maradiaga. He had no driver’s license.
Deputies observed several Corona beer bottles in the vehicle with some open with beer inside.
Maradiaga was advised he was under arrest for careless operation and no driver’s license. Due to the location where he crashed, it was determined it was not safe to perform the standardized field sobriety test at the scene to determine his impairment. The SFST was conducted at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center and was found that his blood alcohol concentration was .271g%.
Maradiaga was booked for driving while intoxicated-first offense, careless operation, no driver’s license and open container.
