Man arrested for cruelty to the infirmed

A call late Tuesday night regarding a disturbance led Lincoln Parish deputies to arrest a Dubach man for cruelty to the infirmed.

At about 10 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a McCullin Road address regarding a fight. When deputies entered the home to check on one of the parties involved, they were confronted with a “strong foul-smelling odor of animal feces.” The deputies found it difficult to breathe the air inside the residence. They found a woman lying face down on a bed, breathing, but not responding to questions. The room, according to deputies, was completely covered with junk, old food, trash, animal feces and hair, and spider webs filled with spiders.

Deputies had to stand on the bed to get to the woman due to the condition of the room. Deputies determined the condition of the residence was so deplorable that it was uninhabitable.

Billy R. Bruce, the other party present, stated the woman had disabilities and her mother, who typically cared for her, was in the hospital. Bruce owns the residence and was supposed to be caring for her.

EMTs removed the woman from the residence, and she stated she was unable to care for herself. She stated Bruce attempted to take her cell phone away from her, prompting the altercation.

Due to the dangerous condition of the house and that Bruce was supposed to be caring for the woman and was aware of the conditions inside, he was arrested for cruelty to the infirmed. He was transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where he’s being held in lieu of $10,000 bond.
