A Simsboro man was arrested for DWI and other charges after being stopped in Ruston for a traffic violation.
Wednesday night Lincoln Parish Deputy Sheriff D. Fleming saw a vehicle cross the center line into the opposing lane on Bernard Street. Upon contact with the driver, Cory E. Brown, 40, of Simsboro, Deputy noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage in the vehicle. Brown was reported to have slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and poor motor functions.
At the deputy’s request, Brown performed several field sobriety tests that indicated he was too impaired to drive. It was also learned Brown’s driver’s license was under suspension.
During a search of the vehicle, a stolen Glock pistol was found.
Brown was transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for chemical testing. Brown refused to cooperate with the testing procedure and refused the test. He was booked for improper lane usage, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, open container, and driving under suspension.
