Drug haul arises from traffic stop

A traffic stop earlier this week led to the recovery of narcotics from a vehicle and a residence, and the arrest of a Ruston woman and a West Monroe man.

A Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department deputy stopped a vehicle for a window tint violation late Tuesday night. A K-9 performed an open air sniff around the exterior of the car and alerted to the presence of controlled substances inside. A subsequent search led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine inside the vehicle. The driver and a passenger, Kayla Guynes Deason, 45, of Ruston, were detained until officers assigned to the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team (LPNET) arrived.

Deason admitted to LPNET officer that the methamphetamine belonged to her. She also claimed she had three bags of meth concealed on her person. A female deputy responded and retrieved the controlled substance from Deason’s person. Deason reportedly admitted the meth was for resale and for personal use. During the investigation, suspected marijuana, suspected clonazepam, and additional methamphetamine was recovered.

During a search of Deason’s Harrison Road residence, 14 individual bags of suspected marijuana was located, as well as THC edibles, suspected meth, Adderall, alprazolam, modafinil, dextroamphetamine, and clonazepam.

During the investigation at the residence, Kyle Matthew Hickman, 38, of West Monroe, was found in the back yard. Two bags of suspected methamphetamine were found in his pocket.

Deason was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for numerous charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of clonazepam, possession of Adderall, possession of alprazolam, possession of a legend drug, and possession of modafinil. Her bail totals $296,500.

Hickman was booked for possession of methamphetamine. He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
