Disturbances lead to arrests

Disturbance calls led Ruston Police to make several arrests on a variety of charges over the past week.

Early Friday morning, officers responded to a disturbance in the 2500 block of West Barnett Springs Avenue. A suspect was located and a records check revealed Jataurius Johnson, 27, of Ruston, was wanted on a warrant held but RPD and one held by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department. Johnson was arrested and a search of his backpack revealed three prescription bottles of bupropion, hydroxyzine, and gabapentin. The bottles did not bear Johnson’s name and he said he had found the drugs.

Officers booked Johnson on the RPD warrant for disturbing the peace, the Lincoln Parish warrant for aggravated battery, and for possession of legend drugs. A probation violation hold was also placed on Johnson.

Early Monday morning RPD officers responded to a disturbance in the 1300 block of South Trenton Street. The caller told responding officers her daughter forced her way into her bedroom damaging the lock and struck her. The daughter, Nickie Nicole Williams, 42, then allegedly broke the house phone and some furniture. The victim said Williams then took her phone and left on foot. Officers located Williams nearby and arrested her. The phone was returned to the victim. Williams was booked for simple battery and simple criminal damage to property.

Monday afternoon RPD answered a disturbance call on Lexington Street. A man told officers he needed to go to jail because he punched his wife. After being placed under arrest, Edward Sturges, 33, said his wife spit on him while they were arguing and he punched her. While the victim was reluctant to answer questions, she did say Sturges had struck her several times with a closed fist.

Sturges was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for domestic abuse battery.
