Dubach School will host its eighth annual art show and auction where students will have the chance to showcase and auction off art that they have been working on individually and collaboratively all year long.
The show will consist of artwork made by students from pre-k through fifth grade. Every student will have a minimum of two pieces of art in the show. On top of that, they will have a collaborative project that has been completed with their classmates to be auctioned off during the silent auction.
The art show and silent auction has not always been a tradition at Dubach School. When art teacher Lauren Dixon first arrived at the school, there was no art program. Dixon saw that holding an art show was a great opportunity for students to showcase their talents in a way they had not been able to do before.
“When I started teaching at Dubach, I knew we had to showcase all of the talent I saw here,” Dixon said. “And displaying the student’s work at an annual art show was a great way to get our parents and community members to come out and support our students and their hard work throughout the school year.”
The students spend the entire school year preparing for the art show and auction. They spend time in class learning a variety of art styles and techniques, such as 2D and 3D art pieces. This gives them a wide range of options to choose from when deciding what to submit into the show.
Dubach School’s art show and auction allows students to be able to show off their work to parents and friends while also giving the community a chance to see what their children are doing while at school.
“The children take pride in their work and love a chance to show it off to friends and family members,” Dixon said. “Getting to see their smiling faces as they find their art pieces and interact with guests is so much fun to see.”
Dixon takes pride in teaching art and enjoys being able to work with a wide range of students.
“It is so much fun starting out with my pre-K students and watching them grow in their skills and confidence level,” Dixon said. “By the time they leave Dubach, they know how to take a mistake in their work and turn it into something great. I feel so blessed to have found my dream job.”
The art show and silent auction will be Monday, May 16 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Dubach School gym. Auction winners will be announced at 6:15 p.m.
At the show, the community will have the opportunity to not only buy auction items made by the students but also auction items that have been donated by local artists. There will also be note cards with student art on them as well as concessions. All proceeds will go towards new art supplies for the students.
