Ruston High School hosts art auction

Ruston High Schools talented art department has created opportunities for students to auction off their artwork for some time now. The Bearcats continue to offer the community art by auctioning off art pieces and paintings made by the students.

Erin Hanna, talented art teacher for Lincoln Parish schools oversaw this year’s 2022 spring auction. The event allows students to showcase their hard work and they get to see how art can be a huge success in their community.

The Art auction event took place from Friday, April 15 through Monday, April 18, 2022.

The RHS students got to pick out their idea for the art auction and some of them struggled to come up with an idea.

“I gave some of the students key words to work from as in ‘spring’ or “Ruston,'” Hanna said. “They were all allowed to develop their own ideas for this project, and they turned out amazing.”

After auctioning off the student’s art pieces and paintings, they ended up gaining something worth far more than just gratitude from the community support. The spring art auction had raised the money to send the RHS talented art students to Crystal Bridges Art Museum in Bentonville, Arkansas.

The Crystal Bridges Art Museum trip was special for the students to see what stunning architecture, American art and exhibitions looks like. Crystal Bridges Art Museum is 120 acres of Ozark nature, and the students discover art, nature, science and more at the museum.

Not only did the community support them during this art auction, but alumni who have gone to RHS in the past keep up with upcoming and ongoing events.

Ruston High school’s alumni student Kara Goff said, “RHS has a great community to back them, and the talented art auction is just another way to show how the community supports the students who attend it.”

Hanna said it’s good to see the community support the students.

“Ruston is really an amazing community that supports the arts, and it really encourages the kids to keep pushing themselves when they see this sort of positive response,” Hanna said.

Ruston High School is also holding its upcoming senior art show from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7  in Esma’s Alley, in Ruston. They will have some items for sale, and they encourage people to come visit and support the graduating Bearcats.
