K-9 finds marijuana on traffic stop

Ruston Police arrested a man on a traffic stop Tuesday after a Lincoln Parish Sheriff K-9 alerted to illegal substances in his car.

At about 12:30 p.m. RPD Officer D. Smith stopped a Chevrolet El Camino that was not displaying a license plate. The driver and a juvenile passenger exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away, and the officer had to direct the driver several times to stay with the vehicle.

The driver, Dominique Wright, 37, of Ruston, could not produce a driver’s license or vehicle registration. During the investigation, Officer Smith requested a K-9 come to the scene while he was completing traffic citations.

A Lincoln Parish deputy sheriff brought a K-9 to the location and a positive alert was obtained on the vehicle. A search revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Wright was arrested and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for fourth offense possession of marijuana (a felony), possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal possession of a controlled substance in the presence of a minor.
