Ruston man receives first DUI

A Ruston man was arrested over the weekend for his first Driving Under the Influence charge.

On July 9, an Ruston Police officer conducted a traffic stop at West Alabama Avenue and North Trenton Street after a vehicle crossed the double yellow lines multiple times.

When the officer contacted the driver, Decarrious Jenkins, 34, the officer smelled alcohol emitting from the vehicle and from Jenkins’ breath. Additionally, when Jenkins exited the vehicle upon the officer’s orders, Jenkins swayed while standing.

Jenkins was handcuffed and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center and refused to submit to a chemical test. He was booked for DUI, first offense. Bail was set at $1,500.
