Ruston American 8U crowned Dixie Youth State Champions

Another Ruston all-star team will be heading to a Dixie World Series.

This time is the Ruston American 8U team that captured the Louisiana Dixie Youth State Championship this past weekend in Monroe.

The Ruston team — coached by Michael Gillum, Lead Terry, Chris Brister and John Brown Jr. – posted a perfect record against a field of 24 teams. Ruston went 8-0 in the tournament, recording five wins by 10 or more runs.

Ruston American 8U won three close games down the stretch, defeating Lakeshore (7-6) and West Monroe (7-5) to advance to the championship game. There they defeated Girard Park (Metairie) in a tightly contested 1-0 game to win the title.

The team is comprised of Titan Booth, Mayes Brister, Granger Brown, Patrick Gillum, Dayton Green, Luke Jeffries, Cale Patton, Andy Slocum, Tripp Terry, Duncan Wade, Joshua Walker and Ezekiel Wilson.

Ruston American will travel to Dothan, Alabama, to compete in the 12-team World Series against teams from Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and the host team from Dothan.

The World Series will be held July 28 – August 1
