An infant in the middle an apparent domestic dispute led to the arrest of a Ruston man Wednesday.
At about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Ruston Police responded to a Henderson Street apartment regarding a report of a man placing a 4-month-old child in the street.
The child’s mother said as she was attempting to drive away, Demarren Hollins, 21, placed their daughter on the trunk of the car and walked away. Officers were shown a cell phone video showing the child sitting on the trunk screaming and crying. The child was on the trunk an unknown amount of time unsupervised. Hollins then walked to the rear of the car and the video ended.
After being advised of his rights, Hollins made a statement that he and the mother had been in a verbal altercation because he was tired of being left with the child. He said he went out of the apartment and banged on the windows of the car as the child’s mother was leaving. He said the mother said she needed to run to the grocery store, and he said no. He said he was physically upset and placed the child on the trunk of the car to prank his girlfriend so she would take the baby. He ducked between cars and after a minute came back and retrieved the child from the trunk.
Hollins was booked for child desertion at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
Bail had not been set at press time.
