Evening shooting leaves Ruston woman severely injured

The Ruston Police Department responded to the Northern Louisiana Medical Center Wednesday in reference to a shooting victim requesting medical attention. Upon arrival, officers find Lakeesha Thurman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Thurman had been driven to the hospital and left in the emergency room.

It was later determined Thurman resided on Watertank Road and it was believed the incident occurred there. Deputies assigned to the Uniformed Patrol Division responded and located what appeared to be the primary scene. Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigative Division were notified and responded to scene, and began processing for potential evidence.

A person of interest was later identified as the victim’s boyfriend, Lee Crew (33) of Ruston. Detectives were able to locate Crew at a hotel in Calhoun. With the assistance of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, Crew was taken into custody at approximately 0500 hrs. Crew was later transported to the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office where he was questioned.

Crew was booked in to LPDC where he was charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder. Crew was also charged with numerous warrants including Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I & II Controlled Dangerous Substances.

Crew remains incarcerated at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on a $986,500 bond.

Sheriff Stephen Williams would like to extend a special thank you to Ouachita Parish Sheriff Jay Russell, his patrol deputies, investigators, and the Ouachita Parish SWAT Team for aiding in the apprehension of this dangerous fugitive. We are grateful for their friendship and unwavering support.
