Veterans and their families were invited to join U.S. Representative Julia Letlow in the Ruston Civic Center for a town hall meeting yesterday.

Letlow was joined on stage in this event by Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker and SFC Chris Taylor.

“This event was a very good turnout in general, not only for the city of Ruston, but for veterans in general,” Walker said. “It is really great to see our community come together with the veterans, because it is time we get to see what is in store for the future.”

Letlow, 5th District congresswoman, spoke on behalf of the veterans by helping them get what they deserve after so many years of serving for us.

“Giving back to the veteran community after they were hurt or injured, or fought in so many wars, is something we can help them with,” Letlow stated.

There are three VA hospitals within an hour or less of distance for Lincoln Parish veterans. One of the VA hospitals is being proposed for closure, and Letlow said she is fighting back.

Taylor added that the event was good for the community.

“I think anytime you can have a representative from Capitol Hill, it says something for her to come down to Ruston and her district to meet local veterans and find out what is important to them,” Taylor stated. “Things like keeping the VA hospital, she’s actively fighting for our bills to be passed and she has the power to do that.”
