Louisiana Tech Director of Track and Field Brian Johnson announced Friday the addition of Jeaneé Romero as an assistant coach specializing in distance running.
“I am extremely excited to add Coach Romero to our staff at Louisiana Tech. Jeaneé has a wealth of experience, a record of success, and most importantly, the passion and desire to develop young people on and off the track. I can’t wait to see her develop our distance program.”
Romero comes to Ruston after spending the last three seasons at UL-Lafayette. Romero started with the Ragin’ Cajuns in 2019 as a volunteer assistant for the track and field program, where she developed training and nutrition programs targeting individual athlete needs.
After serving two successful years in that role, Lafayette promoted Romero to the team’s full-time middle-distance coach last August.
Romero helped develop the UL-L sprint program into one of the top mid-major units in the south. Between 2021 and 2022, sprint program had nine regional qualifiers on the men’s side and seven within the women’s program.
The women’s 4 x 100 relay also broke a 28-year-old school mark when they reached the 2021 NCAA National Championships with a 44.35 clocking. During those two years, Serenity Rogers also broke a school record in the women’s 100 hurdles at 13.05.
With the distance program, Romero helped Sophie Daigle break multiple records during the 2022 indoor and outdoor season, including the indoor mile, 3000 and 5000 standards, along with the outdoor 1500, 5000 and 10,000 marks.
“I am super excited to be on board with the Louisiana Tech team and Coach Johnson. I have had the great pleasure of getting to know him over the past year, and I completely support the vision and direction this program is heading for the years to come.”
Since her ascent into the college ranks, Romero has earned multiple certifications from the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association, including Track and Field Technical Certification Course, Endurance Event Specialist Certification, and Sprint, Hurdle, and Relay Event Specialist.
Romero got her start in coaching in 2018 as an assistant coach at Satsuma High School in Mobile, Ala., where she managed the athlete’s in-season and off-season programs and consulted the athletic director and coaching staff to streamline program structure and recruitment strategies.
Romero was a standout high school distance runner at Edna Karr High school during her prep career before running collegiately at University of Mobile, in Mobile, Alabama.
Romero Graduated from the University of Mobile in 2018 with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology. She earned her master of science in sports management from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in May of 2021.
