The Lincoln Parish Police Jury will hold its September meeting tonight in the Jack Beard Room of the Lincoln Parish Library.

The sub-committee meetings will start at 5:30 p.m. (schedule below) while the regular police jury meeting will start at 7 p.m.

The meetings are open to the general public with a public comment section available for any items listed on the agenda at the beginning of the 7 p.m. meeting while a public comment section for any subjects not on the agenda is scheduled following LPPJ Administrator Doug Postel’s report at the end of the meeting.

The past few months has seen plenty of publicity about the on-going issues surrounding the rescue-ambulance solution for Lincoln Parish (outside the Ruston city limits) starting January 1. Although there are less than four months remaining in this calendar year, the solution is still up in the air with the city of Ruston being invited back into the conversation by the Ambulance Committee during last Friday’s meeting.

Last week also brought what appears to be an obvious sign of internal division within the policy jury when it was made public that juror Skip Russell met with Postel and requested his resignation. Russell stated to the LPJ that he was asked by a number of the jurors to make the request based on alleged documentation of improprieties within the office.

A letter signed by jurors Logan Hunt, Glenn Scriber, TJ Cranford and Matt Pullin was sent to Russell and the rest of the police jury members, criticizing the move which is not allowed under state law.

Russell declined to name the specific jurors who made the request and no one, including Russell, has provided any of the documentation despite numerous requests. Russell met with Postel Friday and apologized for aspects of the initial meeting.

The Lincoln Parish Journal has attempted to reach out to LPPJ President Richard Durrett and Vice President Milton Melton, but has not been successful in reaching either of the two officers.
