Annual Louisiana Chicken Festival begins today

Dubach will again host the 33rd annual Louisiana Chicken Festival, which will kick off activities at noon today with an arts and crafts area and food booths.

The festival will take place at 116 E Hico Street, Dubach.

“It’s important because it’s one of the only fundraisers we have to beautify Dubach,” Mayor Mona Wilson said. “It’s how we take care of our flower beds, the signs, and flag pole; everything in Dubach. Without that, it’s just left up to individuals and we don’t need that.”

The festivities will continue with bingo from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Scott Hamilton Warehouse, karaoke from 6-8 p.m., and a street dance from 8-10 p.m.

Funds raised by DRABO (Dubach Restoration and Beautification Organization) through the festival have recently gone toward a new flag pole for the town as well as other amenities.

“We work hand in hand with them,” Wilson said. “The city pays for all of lighting and the electrical parts. Our town crew takes care of the trash at the festival and putting up tents and all.”
