State Fair BB gun contest pre-registration nears

4-H’s State Fair of Louisiana BB Gun Contest will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Poultry Barn at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds in Shreveport.

Lincoln Parish 4-H students who want to participate must pre-register. To receive two gate passes, pre-register by Oct. 21. The absolute last day to register, but without gate passes, is Nov. 7.

Cost for registration is $5 per contestant. Checks can be made payable to the Louisiana 4-H Foundation.

The contest is open to youth ages 9 to 19. Divisions will be determined by number of participants in each age group. Youth will compete against others in the same age division.

Times to shoot will be sent to participants after the final deadline once divisions are determined. Each age division will have a certain time to check in, starting with the youngest, to reduce the wait time as much as possible.

Participants will have five “bullseye” shots at each of the four positions: prone, standing, sitting and kneeling. There will be a five-minute sight in time before the prone position.

All equipment will be provided, including guns, ammo, targets and eye protection. Do not bring your own BB gun to the state fairgrounds; participants must use the guns provided.

Sixty percent of entry fees will be given back as award premiums for the top five in each age division. The top 10 shooters in each age division will be recognized with award ribbons.
