Man arrested for second degree domestic abuse

An argument over a dog led to a man’s arrest after he allegedly beat a woman into unconsciousness.

Deputies of the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a La. Highway 151 residence near Downsville Thursday night to investigate a domestic disturbance. Joseph A. Cupit, 39, said he and the victim got into a verbal argument regarding their dog.

The victim told deputies she was giving the dog a bath when Cupit came into the bathroom cursing and yelling about the dog. She said he struck her in the back of the head. She was not sure of the weapon but lost consciousness for a few seconds. When she came to, Cupit was beating the dog in the bathtub, she said.

Deputies saw bruising along the victim’s right forearm and blood covering her head and hands. Ruston Ambulance Service responded due to a head laceration and transported the victim to North Louisiana Medical Center.

Cupit was arrested and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for second degree domestic abuse battery.
