HOUMA, La. – Another major milestone for Ruston High School’s volleyball program: its first road playoff win in school history.
The Lady Bearcats took care of business down south to the tune of a three-set sweep over Terrebonne by final scores of 28-26, 25-19 and 25-15. After a back-and-forth battle, Ruston took the first set 28-26 in a set that required extra points.
Terrebonne opened the second set in control before the Bearcats took back over to lead 6-5 forcing the Tigers to call a timeout. Ruston extended its second set lead to 15-10 before calling a timeout to try to quash a Tiger rally. The rally continued for Terrebonne, forcing the Bearcats to take another timeout. It would not prove enough for the Tigers, as Ruston took set two 25-19.
Ruston stormed out to a 5-0 lead in the third set before the Tigers took a timeout. The Bearcats added to the lead to open the set 9-0 before Terrebonne scored its first point of the set. At 13-3, Terrebonne took another timeout before rallying back to cut Ruston’s lead to 14-9. Ruston would ultimately hold on for a 25-15 win in set three.
Ruston is set to play the winner of No. 2 Mt. Carmel and No. 31 Lafayette.
