It will be a day full of TAC action as the Lady Techster basketball team hosts Arkansas State in its Education Day game at 11:30 a.m. while the Lady Techster volleyball team hosts FIU in a important C-USA game at 6 p.m.
Tech vs. Arkansas State (Women’s Basketball)
The Louisiana Tech women’s basketball team will host Arkansas State for the annual Education Day game inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court at 11:30 a.m.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on 97.7 FM and thru the LA Tech Athletics app with Kyle Roberts providing a call of the action. Pregame show starts at 11 a.m.
Louisiana Tech (1-0) opened the 2022-23 season in dominant fashion Monday night inside the Thomas Assembly Center with an 86-30 win over Central Baptist. LA Tech has now won six straight season-openers.
Five Lady Techsters reached double figures in the game, led by Keiunna Walker with 17. Walker moved past Monica Maxwell for No. 26 on the all-time scoring list.
Anna Larr Roberson (11 points, 7 rebounds), Amaya Brannon (10 points, 8 rebounds), Silvia Nativi (10 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists), and Robyn Lee (11 points) joined Walker in double figures.
Arkansas State will open its 2022-23 season with LA Tech after being picked No. 9 in the Sun Belt preseason coach’s poll (out of 14 teams).
Last season, The Red Wolves finished with an overall record of 12-16 and a 5-9 mark in conference play. They posted a 4-9 record on the road during 2021-22.
Arkansas State returns two of their five double-digit scorers from last season in Keya Patton (14.3 ppg) and Lauryn Pendleton (11.3 ppg). Patton was tabbed Preseason Sun Belt First-Team, while Pendleton was named to the Third-Team.
ASU added three new Division I transfers this spring in Izzy Igginbottom (Missouri), Melodie Kapinga (UC-Irvine), and Bre Beck (Florida Atlantic).
Thursday will be the 43rd overall meeting between the Techsters and the Red Wolves with Tech leading 39-3. The series features the fourth-most match-ups in program history with an opponent.
Tech vs. FIU (Volleyball)
The Louisiana Tech volleyball team returns home to face FIU tonight at 6 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center. The game can be seen through a paid subscription to CUSA.tv.
Admission is FREE.
With only two games remaining in the regular season, the Lady Techsters would qualify for the Conference USA Tournament with victories in both (Saturday vs. UTSA at home).
LA Tech (10-17, 3-9 C-USA) is coming off of a 3-0 road loss to No.21 Rice last Sunday afternoon. Chard’e Vanzandt led the Lady Techsters with eight kills followed by Andrea Spasojevic with five.
FIU (7-19, 4-8 C-USA) enters Thursday’s match after dropping their last three against the University of North Florida, Charlotte, and Western Kentucky University. FIU is currently in eighth place in the Conference USA standings. The Panthers were last swept by No. 22 Western Kentucky on Sunday.
FIU leads the past match-ups 10-2. LA Tech is currently one game behind FIU in the C-USA standings and a win by either team can alter the outcome of the season.
