Ruston High now knows it they will host in the second round of the playoffs, and it’s a very familiar district foe: the Ouachita Lions.
Ouachita traveled to South Louisiana Friday night as the No. 17 seed and beat the No. 16 Hahnville Tigers by a final score of 35-21. After trailing 21-13 at halftime, the Lions scored 22 unanswered points in the second half.
“I know Coach Garvin will have them ready to play again after a big win at Hahnville tonight,” Ruston head coach Jerrod Baugh said. “We will need to have a great week of preparation to make sure we give ourselves the best opportunity to win on Friday. We look forward to playing in front of our home crowd and would love a great turnout to support this football team.”
The Bearcats are the No. 1 overall seed in the Non-Select and were able to get a rest this week to prepare for the second round. Based on the new playoff format, Ruston would host in the second round regardless of who the opponent would be. Ouachita will be forced to play on the road for two consecutive rounds.
Ruston and Ouachita already clashed in Week 9 of the regular season, as the Bearcats took that win by a final score of 47-13 in the Lions Den.
