Painting a generous picture

By Spence Drake

Acts of generosity and kindness can come from people of all ages.

Maggie Bamburg is an 8 year old who absolutely loves to paint. Over the holiday break, she along with Lynne Gnemi used their passion of art  to create a full gallery of their work. They then used this gallery to make a difference in the community.

Abbey Bamburg, Maggie’s mother, saw the gallery and saw an opportunity to give back and make an impact in the community. Mrs. Bamburg created an art show for their gallery and all the proceeds would go to 4 Paws, a local no-kill animal shelter.

“Maggie’s other love is animals so that gave us the idea for 4 Paws and since we were participating in Lincoln Lights Up the Pines, we decided to have an art show that weekend and proceeds would go to 4 Paws,” said Mrs. Bamburg.

The show was a success and about $600 was raised as a result. But they were not done there, as they took the remaining art to social media. This venture also proved successful, as the rest of the art was sold and an additional $400 was raised, making the grand total of $1,000.

“For an 8 year old, it made her not only extremely proud to help out with the puppies but of herself. She learned how expensive it is to take care of the animals and wanted to make sure they had enough food to get through the year,” said Abbey Bamburg.

This story simply reiterates the fact that it does not matter how old one is really what one’s interests are, anyone can turn anything into a way to impact the community. Maggie and Gnemi simply turned their hobby into a way to make a difference.

“Maggie’s hope is that her little art show made an impact on 4 Paws and that others will follow in helping them,” said Abbey Bamburg.
