Man found unconscious in roadway charged

A man found passed out behind the wheel of his car was arrested for drugs and other charges Tuesday morning.

Ruston Ambulance Service and Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning of a vehicle blocking Highway 823 with an unconscious man behind the wheel.

Emergency medical personnel reached the man first to find the man unconscious and unable to answer questions. Once he was alert, he said he had no medical issues.

Deputies determined the man, Matthew Allen Stewart, 40, of West Monroe, was wanted on a bench warrant from Third District Court for a child support violation.

During a search of the vehicle, a small container of suspected methamphetamine was found in the center console. A container of suspected marijuana, rolling papers, and two metal spoons commonly used in consuming narcotics were found in a backpack.

While being placed in a patrol car, Stewart apparently dropped a folded dollar bill. Stewart claimed it was his and suspected methamphetamine was found inside.

Stewart’s 2007 Cadillac CTS was impounded since it was blocking the roadway.

Stewart was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for simple obstruction of a highway, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the child support warrant.
