The area’s 2023 St. Jude Z107.5 Radiothon raised $88,388 Wednesday and Thursday, almost $4,100 more than last year’s $84,289.
Nancy Darland, Radiothon chair from the Epsilon Sigma Alpha service group that co-sponsors the event, said she and her fellow Zeta Rho members consider it a privilege and an honor to be able to raise funds to help treat so many children from this region and elsewhere.
“Without St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, there wouldn’t be success stories like Karson Sanchez, who came to visit us during the radiothon,” Darland said. Karson’s mother, Cherish, and siblings Madison and Kalynn arrived during the event’s concluding minutes and were able to pose with volunteers in the final-tally photo. Other St. Jude patients also visited during the event, Darland said, “and that always warms our hearts.”
To the donors, sponsors, businesses, volunteers and others who assisted with the radiothon, “We say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to everyone who contributed in oh-so-many-ways,” Darland said. She especially commended the Z107.5 staff that spent weeks organizing the event, plus broadcasting it live.
