On Saturday, Feb. 11 the Ruston Area Music Teachers Association held their annual piano Solo Festival at Louisiana Tech University School of Music. This event encompasses a full day as students from all over North Louisiana compete to win one of the overall trophies given. To start, a piece is played from memory in a private performance for one judge. Based on that effort, students are given ratings and those students placing Superior Plus with a 98 percent or above move onto an afternoon honors recital at Howard Auditorium. There, all of the judges come together to hear each division and award one winner per grade level from kindergarten all of the way up to 12th grade.
