Cedar Creek saw nine competitors reach the podium and a total of 11 qualify for the state tournament as the Lady Cougars finished second behind West Monroe at the regional meet hosted by Ruston High Saturday.
Madelyn Carroll, Lauren Enterkin and Ashlyn Bourn all finished first in their respective weight classes. Carroll totaled 755 pounds in the 123-pound weight class, while Enterkin totaled 915 pounds in the 165-weight class and Bourn totaled 925 pounds in the 181-weight class.
“Today went according to plan,” said Creek head coach Jacob Angevine. “Our goal was to get 11 girls to qualify for state and that’s exactly what happened. We have mostly an older and experienced squad. They weren’t sad about losing to West Monroe. We love to lift against the Lady Rebels as they are one of the best teams in the state and the defending 5A state champs. West Monroe’s program is like our older sibling for boys and girls.”
Paisly Hamby (615 pounds in 114-pound weight class), Emma Moore (745 pounds in the 123-pound weight class), Peyton Muse (785 pounds in the 132-pound weight class), Ainsley Riley (805 pounds in the 148-pound weight class) and Olivia Salter (795 pounds in the 165-pound weight class) all finished second in their classifications.
Alli Claire Johnson (540 pounds in 97-pound weight class) finished third while Elli Dickerson (745 pounds in 148-pound weight class) finished fifth and Avery Bourn (800 pounds in 220-pound weight class) finished sixth.
Angevine said he was proud of his team’s mindset at the event.
“My two seniors Madelyn Carroll and Peyton Muse told me before the meet the same thing we’ve been preaching all year,” said Angevine. “They said that we don’t get a ring for winning regionals. The girls knew the goal we had for February, and now they turn their eyes towards the goal we have for March. They are locked in. I’m so incredibly proud of this group.”
The Creek boys powerlifting team will compete in regionals this Saturday at Calvary.
