After a banner year for some of our Lincoln Parish Class A teams and this weekend a number of players were rewarded with all-state honors.

Lincoln Prep’s Brayln Mayfield earned first team all-state honors and Cedar Creek’s Allie Furr was named second team all-state by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association while LP’s Brandon Heard and Creek’s Lizzie McAdams both earned honorable mention honors.

Panthers coach Antonio Hudson — an all-stater himself by in his playing days at Grambling Lab — was named the LSWA Class A Boys Coach of the Year after guiding the Panthers to a 24-5 record, the District 2-1A title and the Select School Division IV state title game against Northwood-Lena.

Mayfield, the Lincoln Parish Journal Defensive Player of the Year on the all-LPJ team, averaged 18.3 points per game for Lincoln Prep, poured in 32 points and added nine rebounds in the state title game loss to Northwood-Lena.

Mayfield and Heard led the Panthers to the program’s first state title game appearance in more than 30 years (1992).

Furr, named the Lincoln Parish Journal Defensive Player of the Year on this year’s all-LPJ team, earned second team all-state honors for the Cougars after leading Creek to a share of the District 2-1A title and a quarterfinal appearance in the Select School Division IV playoffs.

Furr and McAdams helped Creek win 22 games this season, one year after guiding the Lady Cougars to the Select School Division IV state title game against Southern Lab. Creek lost to eventual state champion Northwood-Lena in this year’s quarterfinals.
