Drugs, gun found on traffic stop

A Chatham, La.,  man was arrested on drug and weapon charges after he was stopped for a traffic violation Tuesday morning.

A Ruston Police sergeant stopped a vehicle on East Georgia Avenue about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning for failure to use a turn signal. During the stop, police determined the driver’s license was suspended. During a search, suspected ecstasy, a Schedule I controlled substance and a 9 mm pistol were located.

Taverous Lathan, 30, was arrested and booked for possession of ecstasy, illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled substance, driving under suspension, and no turn signal.

Bail was set at $5,000.
