Worker assaulted on the job

A Downsville man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly struck a coworker at their place of employment.

Lincoln Parish deputies responded to UPS Road about 1 p.m. Tuesday. The victim told deputies Everado Almedia-Cortez, 46, walked up to him while he was talking to another worker. Cortez allegedly hit the victim and then jumped on top of him and struck him multiple times.

Deputies viewed a video from the business that showed Cortez hitting the victim who went to the ground. Cortez got on top of the victim, grabbed him by the head, and hit him multiple times.

Cortez said the victim was “talking trash” to him and they both started swinging. However, the victim is not seen hitting Cortez in the video. Cortez was arrested for simple battery and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.

Bail was set at $1,000.
