Grambling man arrested for fleeing from police

A Grambling man was arrested Sunday evening after he allegedly fled officers responding to a disturbance call.

Grambling Police responded to the Spring Market on Legends Avenue about 6:00 p.m. Sunday in response to a call about a disturbance in front of the store. The caller told responding officers a man had made threats toward him.

An officer saw the suspect enter the passenger side of a Dodge pickup in the parking lot. Officers attempted to flag down the driver to stop, but he refused and left the lot. Officers pursued the vehicle south on R.W.E. Jones Drive with lights and sirens.

Instead of stopping, the vehicle crossed a double yellow line and nearly hit the back of a patrol car. The vehicle turned onto Martin Luther King Drive, running a red light and forcing vehicles off the roadway. GPD officers were able to surround the vehicle in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Drive.

The driver, Wilford L. Paige, Sr., 79, said he was attempting to take his son, the passenger, Wilford Paige, Jr., to the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office because they feared the Grambling Police Department.

Paige was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for aggravated flight from an officer.

Bail was set at $10,000 with the condition Paige not return to the shopping center.
