Stop leads to multiple charges

Ruston police arrested a man Friday on numerous charges during a traffic stop.

Damon P. Barfield, 47, of Ruston, was stopped for an expired license plate about 7:00 p.m. on North Trenton Street. The officer found Barfield was smoking in the vehicle with two juveniles under the age of 13 in the back seat. Barfield said he did not have a driver’s license in his possession and said his name was Damon Malveaux.

A records check failed to locate a driver’s license under that name. Barfield repeated the same name but could not produce any documents bearing that name. Further checking showed Malveaux was an alias for Damon Barfield and he was wanted in Texas

A check of the license plate indicated the it had been switched from another vehicle. Barfield was arrested and two bank cards with the name Damon Barfield were found in his pocket.

Barfield was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for resisting an officer by false information, switched license plate, driving under suspension, and smoking in a motor vehicle with children present. Barfield was not immediately charged with the Texas offense because a copy of the warrant could not be obtained.
