Domestic call leads to home invasion charge

Ruston Police arrest a man for home invasion and multiple traffic charges after he reportedly kicked in an apartment door and assaulted his ex-girlfriend.

Just after midnight earlier this week, a woman reported Craig Abney, 59, kicked in her door and assaulted her at her South Barnett Springs Road apartment. Abney had left by the time officers arrived.

The woman said Abney showed up at her apartment and everything was “okay.” She said Abney left and then came back knocking on the door. The victim said she told Abney he was not coming back inside. He then allegedly kicked down the door and slapped her across the face and then left.

About 10 minutes after officers left the call, the victim called back reporting Abney was back at the apartment and had pushed his way through the broken door and slapped her again. He again departed before officers arrived, but his car was spotted on West Barnett Springs Avenue and he was stopped.

Abney exhibited signs of alcohol intoxication and was arrested. A breath test was administered at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center with results of 0.187g%, over twice the Louisiana legal limit. He was booked for home invasion, DWI-first offense, expired driver’s license and no liability insurance.

Abney was also booked on outstanding arrest warrants for domestic abuse battery, damage to property, and theft.
