Man arrested for cruelty to juvenile

A Ruston man was arrested Sunday after investigation of an injury to a juvenile.

Ruston Police responded to a Grant Street residence regarding an unruly juvenile. An officer located the 13-year-old juvenile nearby. She was taken to the North Louisiana Medical Center emergency room for evaluation.

A red mark shaped like a handprint was found on her thigh. She said she had been in a verbal altercation with David Thompson, 68, which turned physical. Thompson allegedly grabbed her by the shirt and pushed her against a vehicle in the residence’s driveway. The juvenile said Thompson called her a derogatory name, struck her on the arm and leg, and pulled her hair.

Thompson arrived at the emergency room to speak with staff about the juvenile’s evaluation. During questioning by officers, Thompson said he asked the girl to go into the residence earlier that evening and she refused. Thompson stated she began to fight him physically and he attempted to grab her. Thompson stated during the tussle, they ended up against the car and he believed the mark on her leg was a result of his attempt to grab her.

Thompson was arrested for cruelty to a juvenile and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
