Hiding man arrested after domestic incident

A man was arrested hiding under a pile of clothes last week after he allegedly battered his girlfriend.

Ruston Police responded to the intersection of West Mississippi Avenue and Everett Street about 11 p.m. last Tuesday night regarding an assault on a woman.

The woman said her boyfriend struck and strangled her inside her apartment. She said they were in a verbal altercation when Demetrius Scott, 43, grabbed her by the throat with both hands and lifted her up. She said she felt herself come off the floor and had trouble breathing. When Scott let her go, he allegedly threatened her and repeatedly punched her in the head.

The woman said she believed she was struck approximately nine times in the head and three times in the ribs and abdomen. She said she tried to run out of the apartment, but Scott grabbed her by the throat and flung her to the floor.

The woman said when Scott went to the bathroom, she was able to escape the apartment.

Officers went to the apartment and knocked several times, but Scott did not come to the door. With the victim’s consent, officers entered her residence and found Scott in a bedroom hiding under a pile of clothes. He was arrested and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where he was booked for domestic abuse battery with strangulation and false imprisonment.
