The Lincoln Parish Museum continues its Chautauqua Speaker Series Thursday night with a presentation on the Louisiana Colored Chautauqua that existed in Grambling in the early 1900s.
Phyllis Miller, perhaps the most knowledgeable person on Grambling history, will describe the educational and cultural program that was chartered in Lincoln Parish in what was then called the Allen Greene community in 1906. The corporation, which presented annual programs for several years, was formed by nine local leaders with capital stock of $5,000.

Miller delivered a compelling presentation in March on local history as part of the ongoing series at the museum. The presentation Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. will explain how Grambling State University came to be in Lincoln Parish and will discuss the visionaries who helped bring it to life.
The program, a Lincoln Parish Sesquicentennial-sanctioned event, will be held at the Museum, 609 N. Vienna St. in Ruston. Admission is free. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for those who would like to tour the museum or purchase sesquicentennial memorabilia.
