
Funeral services for Mrs. Joan Barham Jacks, age 78 of Dubach, LA will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at New Prospect Baptist Church in Dubach with Rev. Barry Joyner, Rev. Marvin Winham and Rev. Larry Bullock officiating. Burial will follow in Unionville Cemetery in Dubach under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel of Ruston, LA.
Joan was born on February 10, 1945 in Dubach to Doyle and Avis Barham and passed away June 19, 2023 surrounded by family and friends following a stroke. She graduated as valedictorian from Dubach High School in 1963. Joan began dating Don Jacks in 1963, and they were married on June 4, 1964 at New Prospect Baptist Church. The story was always told, “She met the love of her life the day she was born, because he held her in his arms that day.” Joan graduated as Magna Cum Laude from Louisiana Tech University with a BS in accounting in 1966. She worked as an accountant for Lincoln General Hospital and for Holiday Accounting firm until she became self-employed. Joan kept accounting records for Mickey Mays Office Solutions, filed tax returns and was the secretary for the Water Works District #1 for 55 years. She was baptized at Hico Baptist Church as a teenager and followed the Lord her whole life. Throughout her life, Joan was a light for the Lord and taught Sunday School, GA’s and Acteens. She was a two-time cancer survivor for 48 years and was a living testimony of God’s healing power. Joan never failed to share her love of Christ to everyone she met. She also loved hunting and fishing with her husband Don. They spent much of their time in the woods and on the lake. Joan always said that she had the best hunting guide and the best stands. She was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings; and her son Jeffery Jay Jacks.
Joan is survived by her husband of 59 years Donald Rex Jacks; daughter Jeanie Jacks Rowland and husband Devery of Dubach; two grandchildren Darby Rowland Taylor and husband Nathan of Dubach and Devin Jay Rowland of Dubach; one brother Clyde Barham; brothers-in-law D. B. Gay and Luther Hammons; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other family and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Davey Crawford, Bill Barham, Kerry Gaskin, Wayman Barham, Ben Thomas and Robert Barham Sr.
Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at the church.
