Highly-decorated Louisiana Tech pitcher Jonathan Fincher collected another honor Thursday as the Bulldog was named the 2022-23 Conference USA Scholar Athlete of the Year for baseball.

The awards, voted on by the conference’s 14 Faculty Athletics Representatives, are presented to the top student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport based on academic achievement, athletic achievement, and service.

Fincher recently became only the second LA Tech student-athlete to ever be voted as a three-time Academic All-America honoree.

The fifth-year senior graduated in the spring of 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and minor in Chemistry while having a cumulative GPA of 3.89. He is currently pursuing a second degree in Kinesiology and Health Sciences in which he has a cumulative GPA of 3.92.

The Shreveport native is also a three-time CSC Academic All-District selection as well as being a three-time C-USA All-Academic member, five-time C-USA Academic Medalist, and five-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient.

On the mound, Fincher was named Second Team All-Conference USA as a starting pitcher this past season. He made 19 appearances with 15 starts, compiling an overall record of 8-4, tying for the most victories in CUSA. He threw 89.0 innings while punching out 84 batters.

The left-handed slinger finished his Bulldog career ranked in the top five in program history in innings pitched (324.2), strikeouts (319), wins (27), and appearances (85).
